A Ritual to Honor the Mother Goddess
Place a white, female-shaped candle at the center of your altar, arranging fresh
flowers around it. This candle represents the mother goddess; anoint it with
three drops of frankincense and myrrh oil, and then light it with a match. After
casting a circle and calling forth the guardians of the four elements, gaze into
the flame of the candle, raise your arms in a traditional Witches' prayer
position with palms turned up, and say: "Mother Goddess, creatress most ancient.
This Witch's circle is consecrated to thee. You who are the giver of life; all
that has been, all that is, and all that will be. This candlelight ritual I do
perform in thy honor. You are the eternal and infinite queen of the gods and the
greatest power on Earth, who commandest all that is. Praise be to thee, O Mother
Goddess. So mote it be."

Maiden Ritual

This is ritual is to heal and strengthen your maiden self.  Perform at
the New Moon when the waxing cresent first appears.

You will need: a new white candle, flowers (white preferraby), mugwort.
edible seeds, a chalice withwater, images of maidens, a sachet filled
with lavendar, saffron and laurel to place in bath water.

As the sun sinks into the west and the cresent follows it into the sky,
put on some gentle flowing music, light some candles around your ritual
room, and burn some of your favorite incense.  Prepare a ritual bath
with the sachet.

Bathe taking your time.  Celebrate your beauty and womanhood.  As the
water washes over your body, imagine it washing away tiredness,
stagnation, and negative attitudes.  Wet your hair and feel negativity
leave your thoughts and memories.  Raise from the bath amd say to
yourself:  "I am Maiden, beautiful, renewed, refreshed, reborn."

Dress in something that makes you feel beautiful or go skyclad.  Put
flowers in your hair.  Dance before the altar, imagine Maidens dancing
with you.

Whe you feel ready seat yourself before the altar. light the white
candle and say: "Wih this flame I ignite within me the spirit of the
Maiden."

Ring a bell or drum for a few minutes, do some deep breathing,
concentrate on the candle flame.  When ready look at the images of the
Maidens or see Maidens in your minds eye.  Say: "I am whole unto myself
I am a bright maiden
Strong, invincible, and free
I am a dark maiden
Cloaked in veils and mysteries
I am the pulse of the sun
And the pull of the moon
Flowing from one to the other
In perfect harmony
Where I walk
None can hinder me
I am maiden
Forever young and free

Chantthese words over and over if you wish.  Feel the meanings move
through you.  Take some time for meditation.  Ask the Goddess to send
you strong images of powerful Maiden Goddesses and role models in your
every day life.  See the images before you float towards you and become
one.  Take up the chalice and drink deeply.  Say: " Maiden Goddess
I drink of thy sweetness and strength
And so am I filled with thy spirit.

Eat a seed and say:
"As this seed sprouts new life
So am I filled with vitality."

When you feel complete, ground the ebergy and snuff out the candle.

Basic Ritual

A circle should be marked on the floor, surrounding those who will participate in the ceremony. An altar is to be set up at the center of the circle. At the center of the altar shall be placed an image of the Goddess, and an incense burner placed in front of it. Behind the image should be a wand fashioned from a willow branch. Candles should be set upon the altar ... a total of five, since on is to be set at each quarter and one will remain on the altar during the rite.

When all the people are prepared they shall assemble within the circle. The woman acting as priestess shall direct the man who acts as priest to light the candles and incense. She shall then say:

"The presence of the noble Goddess extends everywhere,

Throughout many strange, magical, And beautiful worlds,

To all places of wilderness, enchantment, and freedom."

She then places a candle at the north and pauses to look outwards, saying:

"The Lady is awesome,

The Powers of death bow before Her."

The person closest to the east takes a candle from the altar and places it at that quarter, saying:

"Our Goddess is a Lady of Joy,

The winds are Her servants."

The person closest to the south takes a candle from the altar and places it at that quarter, saying:

"Our Goddess is a Goddess of Love.

At Her blessings and desire The sun brings forth life anew."

The person closest to the west takes a candle from the altar and places it at that quarter, saying:

"The seas are the domain of our Serene Lady,

The mysteries of the depths are Hers alone."

The priest then takes the wand, and starting at the north, draws it along the entire circle clockwise back to the north point, saying:

"The circle is sealed, and all herein are totally and completely apart from the outside world, that we may glorify the Lady whom we adore. Blessed Be!"

All repeat: "Blessed Be!"

The priest now holds the wand out in salute towards the north for a moment and then hands it to the priestess, who also holds it out in salute. She motions to the group to repeat the following lines after her:

"As above, so below ...

As the universe, so the soul.

As without, so within.

Blessed and gracious one,

On this day do we consecrate to you

Our bodies,

 Our minds,

And our spirits.

Blessed Be!"

Now is the time for discussion and teaching. Wine and light refreshments may be served. When the meeting has ended, all wil stand and silently meditate for a moment. The priestess will then take the wand and tap each candle to put it out, starting at the north and going clockwise around the circle, while saying:

"Our rite draws to its end.

O lovely and gracious Goddess,

Be with each of us as we depart.

The circle is broken!"

Casting a Circle
From the book "Power of the Witch" by Laurie Cabot

1. Remove all animals and small children from the area and any furniture that you do not want to be inside your circle.

2. Set up your altar before you cast the circle.

3. Locate magnetic north with a compass and, holding the wand out from your body, go into alpha and see the wand's aura extending out from it, especially at the tip.

4. Visualize the tip of the wand creating a circle of light and energy, like a lazer, as you walk clockwise three times around the area. The circumference drawn by the wand's tip will be the edge of your circle. Project white light out from the wand to create the circle of energy. In your mind see the circle as geometrically perfect and say to yourself that it is.

5. Walk the circle the second time around and say out loud, "I cast this circle to protect me / us from all negative and positive energies and forces on any level that may come to do me / us harm. I draw into this circle only the energies and forces that are right for me / us and the most correct for my / our work."

6. Walk the circle the third time and say, "I create sacred space. So mote it be."

7. Invoke the four directions and the energies of the elements, angels, and powers that reside in them by using the athame, wand, sword, or index finger to draw an invoking pentagram as you face each direction. Use a ritual spell of invocation or one you write for yourself.

8. To open a circle hold the wand out over the circumference of the circle and, beginning at magnetic north, walk once around the circle counterclockwise as you say, "I send this circle into the cosmos to do my / our bidding. The circle is undone but not broken."

House Blessing

Assemble:
1.Salt & Water
2.Incense (fire and air)
3.Milk & Honey
4.Oil (for anointing)
5.Wine (for offering)
6.Bells, Pots, Pans, Whistles, etc.

Cast a circle in the main room (livingroom) and after casting, visualize the circle
expanding to include the entire house. Call upon the spirits and energies living in the
house (or apartment). Invite those who will be harmonious with the new household and
its energies to remain. Invite/ask those who will be happier elsewhere to depart.
Release all "energies" not compatible with the new household. (This may be expressed
as a "release" in order to unbind anything that may be stuck.)

Then call upon, greet, and invite ancestors, patron deities, and all harmonious spirits
and energies to dwell in the house as they please.

Gather up the pots, pans, and all the noise-makers. Go to each door and window, not
forgetting the fire-place and dog-door, making as much racket as humanly possible-to
shoo out anything unwanted. (This is hysterical fun, and also raises lots of energy for the
next important step.) Go again throughout the house and at each portal (door, window,
etc.) sprinkle salt-water and cense, saying: "By the Elements I purify and charge this
portal." Then anoint the portal with milk and honey, saying: "By Milk and Honey I ensure
prosperity and peace within this place." Finally, anoint the portal with oil, saying: "With
Oil I seal this portal and protect all within." At the front door a special prayer is said,
asking the guardian deities (God & Goddess) to freely grant entry to all friends and
loved ones, and to prevent passage (turn aside) to any who would do harm." Then, if it's
a house-pour wine across the width of the threshold; if it's an apartment anoint the
threshold with light touches of wine.

The house-holders then each take a sip of wine, leaving some as an offering to the
Gods, and the Circle should be closed. The remaining wine, milk, and honey should be
offered to the Gods. (In our case to the fruit tree and the oak tree in our yard.)

Addenda: This is very effective if done as part of a house-warming party, followed by
much feasting. It has also been done very effectively by two people. It only takes about
30 minutes to do a large house. You can take the time.

Do make certain to "ground" afterward, by closing the circle and by eating. This ritual
can "stir" up everybody and make the house feel full of "buzzy" energy.

House Blessing Notes
In the spirit of house blessings, and because I'm basically a kitchen witch at heart, and
like little projects over serious ritual, I offer some selections gleaned from Cunningham's
The Magical Household. I'm typing these without permission but with the hope that they'll
inspire you to pick up the Cunningham book, because it's wonderful stuff...:>

For the doorway:

Suspend over the door a fresh sprig of dill, tied with a blue cord (or red, if you
prefer), to prevent those who mean you harm from entering.

Cross two needles, and stick into or tie onto a corner of your doormat, to prevent
      evil from entering.

Grind Dragon's Blood herb into a powder and sprinkle it on door and window sills,
to protect your house from harm.

  Broom Blessing

I consecrate this broom
Not only as a tool of my craft,
But as a symbol of my faith.

Sprinkle salt on the broom

I bless this broom with the spirit of Earth,
of rocks and trees,
of comfort and security.

Brush broom with a feather

I bless this broom with the spirit of Air,
of bells and feathers,
of spirit and mind.

Touch candle flame (very quickly ) to broom

I bless this broom with the spirit of Fire,
of spice and flame,
of courage and energy.

Sprinkle water on the broom

I bless this broom with the spirit of Water,
of pearls and shells,
of emotion and cleansing.

Blow your breath across the broom

I bless this broom with the spirit of Life,
that together we may honor the Lord and Lady.

A Wand Dedication Ritual

Finally, a suggestion for dedicating your wand before you first use it. Perform this with visualization.

If the wand is made of wood, take it outside at sunset and rub it with fresh lavender, eucalyptus or mint leaves. Raise it towards the east and invoke the Goddess. In the morning, at sunrise, take it outside and invoke the Goddess by rubbing it with more fresh leaves and holding it up to the east again.

ALTAR CONSECRATION AND DEDICATION RITUAL

To consecrate and dedicate an altar(not alter) to the Lord and Lady, first find the place where you wish to set up the altar. This place must not be disturbed, for it will take on sacred and holy energies, and you will not want anything to happen to this area. Use some quiet meditational music if there is some available. Remember, the more energy and work that you put into your altar, the more magickal energy it will take on. You may even use an energy bell or Tibetan bell to signify that you are beginning to call those spiritual guides to assist you with your present work. Action is the key! Once you have found that place, take a smudge wand of Sage, light it and begin to clear the air around the altar. Constantly, keep Love and Light in your conscious-ess. Now, move to the four elements and ask for their guiding presence. Use a compass if needed to find the proper directions on the Earth. North = EarthSouth = FireEast = AirWest = WaterAround = Spirit Ask for their blessings and honor their assistance. Next, begin to set up the altar, placing each item you wish on the altar gently and reverently. Use the Consecration Ritual if you need to consecrate any magickal tools. You'll know what those items are as time passes. The altar will change its appearance as the seasons change. On your altar can be anything you wish, anything! Some altars are outside, some are inside. Some are clean and orderly, while others are cluttered with anything and everything around them. Yet, you must keep this place of sacredness, honorable to the God and Goddess. You may wish to use two 7 day candles (buy at 99 cent store) to represent the ever presence of the God and Goddess in your life. Black for God, White for Goddess. Red of fire, incense for Air, small bowl of water for west, and something of the Earth for North. Once your altar is set up the way you want it, spend a few moments in quiet meditation thinking about what this altar means to you. Now, allow the altar to fill you with its magick and energy. Feel the magick around you. breathe in the Love and Light from the Lord and Lady. Visual yourself revitalized because of it's presence. See yourself becoming more healthy, whole, and wise. Now, visualize healing for someone else, maybe someone you do not even know. Send them Love and Light. When you are ready to end your dedication and consecration ritual, sound the bell once again, thanking all elements for their presence and assistance. Send them back to their humble abode harming none on their way. Now, thank the Lord and Lady for their presence in your life. Take a deep breath of the fresh magick around you and repeat:So mote it be!It is done! Allow the Lord and Lady candles to burn constantly, replacing them week after week, month after month, year after year.

 Cleansing Ritual

1.  Ritual cleansing of the people involved:
Cleansing of the Body- Bath in Sea Salt to remove any impurities on ones
self. Meditate using an incense that will help create the proper frame of
mind, ridding oneself of all negativity.

2. Preparing the Altar:
The following items should be on the Altar: Goddess and God candles, spirit
candle, earth, water, your athame, sensor, oils and sea salt to be using in
the cleansing, any incense to be used during cleansing, finally some pieces
of clear quartz crystal that have been charged and programmed to provide
protection. Obsidian also works very well.  Frankincense, Myrrh and Dragon's
Blood mixture will work for the incense.  We used equal parts of each. The
Altar should be grounded.  This can be done by first clearing out anything
under the altar, then placing a piece of hematite resting on a bed of
chamomile under the Altar on the floor. This will force any negativity
created out of the altar into the ground.

3. Cast a circle starting at an area just around the altar, call on the Lady and
the Lord for their protection, guidance, and help to rid the house of
negativity. Gradually increase your circle leaving one opening to the
outside, a door works best. A person should remain outside of the circle to
be symbolically chased out of the dwelling. When you are finished thank the
Lady and the Lord for their help and take down the circle.

In some cases where an evil spell is present, or a negative force is at work,
extra precautions must be taken.  If there is anything, or a place in the house
that feels cold or strange, that area should be thoroughly gone over for any
remaining physical influences.

When going around the house to cleanse with sea salt, a spray bottle of sea
water (or water to which sea salt has been added) will help immensely.  Spray
all of the mirrors, phone jacks and electrical outlets with the sea water which
will leave a residue of sea salt then it dries.  Don't forget the plumbing,
making sure sea salt does down all of the drains and is placed around the taps.
Also with the toilet)s) make sure salt is placed in both the tank and the bowl.
 *******WARNING********

Make sure that electrical power is off in the room(s) where you are spraying
outlets with the sea water.

In some cases it may be necessary to rub down pieces of furniture with a myrrh
oil mixture.

Make sure that all areas of the house are cleansed being especially careful of
windows and doors.  If an entity is expected to be present work around the house
with a door being the last place cleansed to help drive it out.

RITUAL BATH
The purpose of a ritual bath is to cleanse Yourself, from the inside and out, of negative energies and prepare your Physical, Mental and Spiritual Self for Circle. A ritual bath is a rite in and of itself. The rite is ideally done just prior to Circle, but this is not always the case. (An example of such is if you have to travel to the meeting place.) After the rite is completed and you must travel to another place for Circle, try to keep your mind in a Spiritual frame as this will aid you in Circle. The bath water should be infused with salts, herbs oils and colors that are harmonious with the work to be done in Circle. To prepare for the bath: Select the Herbs, (it is best to have your herbs in a satchel for easier clean- up) oils and salts (of the same color as the candle) that you will be using. Have a censer and charcoal block ready to burn a corresponding incense on. Anoint a candle of appropriate color (possibly using the same oil as you are using in the bath water.) If you have a shrine set up in your bathroom there should be a Goddess and God candle present. Have some Holy Water ready. Holy Water is made from: 1/3 sea-water (river-water with sea-salt added will do if sea-water is unavailable) 1/3 river-water, 1/3 spring-water (store bought is OK) Have a tape recorder with meditation music in the bathroom with you, as its aid to visualization and meditation is invaluable. (Be cautious to have the tape recorder far away from any water and DO NOT TOUCH IT WHILE YOU ARE STILL WET.) A glass of wine is also needed for consumption upon completion of the rite. And your libation dish for the libation to the Gods. To begin turn out the lights and light the candle(s) and incense, turn on tape, fill the tub with warm water and add herbs, oils, salts and a cup or so of Holy Water. With your Athame draw and visualize a Water or Banishing Pentagram over the bath water. All of these tools represent the four Elements; Air/the incense and the scents from the bath, Fire/the heat of the bath, Water/the bath and Holy Water and, Earth/the herbs and oils. Lower yourself into the water and visualize it cleansing you of all negativity. Know that these energies are flowing from your Physical, Mental and Spiritual Selves into the water. Relax and enjoy the warmth of the water, the scents in the air and the feeling of being cleansed of all negativity, let yourself drift. Now concentrate and visualize on the purpose of the coming ritual and know that you are truly prepared. When you feel you are ready, pull the plug and stay in the tub until all the water has drained. As the water is draining visualize and know that the negative energies that are now in the water are going into the Earth and are grounded. Rise up out of the tub and do a Self Blessing like the following:Anoint each area while saying aloud: Blessed be my Mind, that learns of Your ways [anointing your forehead] Blessed be my eyes, that have seen this day. Blessed be my lips, that utter Your names and keep Your secrets. Blessed be my breast(s), formed in strength (Beauty). Blessed be the phallus (Womb), for without which I would not be. Blessed be my knees, that shall kneel at thy Sacred Altar. Blessed be my feet, that have brought me in these ways. Pour a libation to the Gods and drink the wine. When dried, robe, clean-up the bathroom and take the libation outside to return it to the Earth. The rite is ended. So Mote it Be!

THE SMUDGING CEREMONY

Our Native elders have taught us that before a person can be healed or heal
another, one must be cleansed of any bad feelings, negative thoughts, bad
spirits or negative energy – cleansed both physically and spiritually. This
helps the healing come through in a clear way, without being distorted or
sidetracked by negative "stuff" in either the healer or the patient. The elders
say that all ceremonies, tribal or private, must be entered into with a good
heart so that we can pray, song and walk on a sacred manner, and be helped by
the spirits to enter the sacred realm.

Native people throughout the world use herbs to accomplish this. One common
ceremony is to burn certain herbs, take the smoke in one's hands and rub or
brush it over the body. Today this is commonly called "smudging", and in Western
North America the three plants most frequently used in smudging are sage, cedar
and sweetgrass.

SAGE
There are many varieties of sage, and most have been used in smudging. The
botanical name for "true" sage is Salvia (e.g. Salvia officinalis, Garden Save,
or Salvia apiana, White Sage). It is interesting to note that Salvia comes from
the Latin root salvare, which means "to heal". There are also varieties of sage
which are of a species separated from Salvia-Artemisia. Included here
are sagebrush (e.g. Artemisia californica) and Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris). We
have seen both Salvia and Artemisia sub-species used in smudging.

Sage is burned in smudging ceremonies to drive out bad spirits, feelings or
influences, and also to keep bad spirits from entering the area where a ceremony
takes place. In Plains nations, the floor ot he sweatlodge is frequently covered
with sage, and participants rub the leaves on their bodies while in the sweat.
Sage is also commonly spread on the ground in a lodge or on an altar
where the pipe touches the earth. Some nations wrap their pipes in sage when
they are placed in pipe-bundles, as sage purifies objects wrapped in it. Sage
wreaths are also placed around the head and wrists of Sundancers.

CEDAR
There is some potential confusion here too about the terms used to name plants,
mainly because iin some areas, junipers are known as "cedar" – as in the case of
Desert White Cedar (Juniperus monosperma). This doesn't mean that J. monosperma
wasn't used as a cleansing herb, though; in the Eastern U.S., its relative,
Eastern Red Cedar (Junperus Virginia) was used ceremonially. However, in the
smudging ceremonies we have seen or conducted ourselves, Western Red Cedar
(Thuja occidentalis) and California Incense Cedar (Libocedrus descurrens) were
used – not varieties of juniper.

Cedar is burned while praying either aloud or silently. The prayers rise on the
cedar smoke and are carried to the Creator. Cedar is also spread along with sage
on the floor of the sweatlodges of some tribes. Cedar branches are brushed in
the air to cleanse a home during the House Blessing Ceremoney of many Northwest
Indian nations. In the Pacific Northwest, the People burn cedar for purification
in much the same way as sage – it drives out negative energy, but it also brings
in good influences. The spirit of cedar is considered very ancient and wise by
Pacific Northwest tribes and old, downed cedar trees are honored with offerings
and prayers.

SWEETGRASS
One of the most sacred plants for the Plains Indians, sweetgrass is a tall wild
grass with a reddish base and perfume-like musty odor. It grows mainly on the
eastern side of the Rockies in Montana and adjacent Alberts, Canada, and also in
come small areas of Wyoming and South Dakota. Its botanical name is Hierochloe
odorata; some common names are Seneca grass, holy grass and vanilla grass. We
have been told that a variety of vanilla grass grows in North-Central California
but how similar it is to the Plains variety we don't know.

On the Plains, sweetgrass is usually braided together in bunches as a person's
hair is braided, although friends have said they have seen it used simply
bunched and wrapped in cloth. Either way, it is usually burned by shaving little
bits over hot coals or lighting the end and waving it around, letting the smoke
spread through the air. This latter method is how we were taught to burn sweet-
grass in the sweatlodge – allowing the purifying smoke to get to all parts of
the lodge.

We were taught that it was good to burn sweetgrass after the sage or cedar had
driven out the bad influences. Sweetgrass brings in the good spirits and the
good influences. As with cedar, burning sweetgrass while praying sends prayers
up to the Creator in the smoke. High Hollow Horn says in The Sacred Pipe: "This
smoke from the sweetgrass will rise up to You, and will spread throughout the
universe; its fragrance will be known by the wingeds, the four-leggeds, and the
two-leggeds, for we understand that we are all relatives; may all our brothers
be tame and not fear us!" Sweetgrass is also put in pipe bundles and medicine
bundles along with sage to purify and protect sacred objects.

Sweetgrass is very rare today, its territory severly cut by development, cattle-
grazing and wheat fields, and traditional Indians in the northern Plains are
trying to protect the last-remaining fields. The best way for most folks to get
sweetgrass is to buy it at Native American retail outlets, which gives support
to Indians who can help the fields from being depleted.

SMUDGING
To do a smudging ceremony, burn the clippings of these herbs (dried), rub your
hands in the smoke and then gather the smoke and bring it into your body – or
rub it onto yourself, especially onto any area you feel needs spiritual healing.
Keep praying all the wile that the unseen powers of the plant will cleanse your
spirit. Sometimes one person will smudge another, or a group of people, using
hands or more often a feather to lightly brush the smoke over the other people.
We were taught to look for dark spots in a person's spirit-body. As one
California Indian woman told us, she "sees" a person's spirit-body glowing
around them and where there are "dark or foggy parts", she brushes the smoke
into these "holes in their spirit-body". This helps to heal the spirit and to
"close up" these holes.

Recently we did a light house-cleansing for a friend. We use the term "light"
for this is a relatively simple ceremony as opposed to some that are more
lengthy and complicated. Our friend had had some serious emotional and
relationship problems and he felt they had left a heavy dark atmosphere. First
we prayed together to the Creator and to the spirits for help. We then burned
sage, purified ourselves, and took the sage to all corners, closets and rooms
Of the house, pushing the smoke with our hands to cleanse every bit of space –
lingering over dark or cold spots that "felt" uncomfortable.

We sued sage first in order to drive out the bad influences. Then we purified
ourselves with cedar and, with it, repeated the cleansing process throughout the
house. Then sweetgrass was used in the same manner to bring in good influences.
All the time, we prayed for help in this cleansing. Finally, we took a candle
over the whole house and pushed its light into every corner. This "lighting-up"
of a house was taught to us by the People of the Pacific Northwest Coast. We've
been doing this type of house cleansing for ten years and it never fails to
"clear the air", at least somewhat.

One more note about smudging. It is very popular among New Age groups to use
abalone shells in smudging. There are many Native elders who are pleased to see
so many folks smudging themselves, but some are concerned that abalone shells
are being used when burning the sacred herbs. On the Pacific Northwest Coast,
for example, some holy men have said that abalone shells represent Grandmother
Ocean and they should be used in ceremonies with water, not burning. We know
enough Native elders in the Northwest, the Plains and California who don't use
abalone shells – but instead clay or stone bowls – that we don't personally feel
comfortable using a shell.

In any case, smudging is a ceremony that must be done with care. We are entering
into a relationship with the unseen powers of these plants and with the spirits
of the ceremony; and, as with all good relationships, there has to be respect
and honor if a relationship is to work
.

Wiccan Rite of Tea

Purpose:
The purpose of this ritual, is to thank the gods for Their blessing throughout the ending day and to ask them to be with you throughout the coming day. To meditate upon the day's activities and to prepare yourself for the coming day.

  • Red Candle (anointed)
  • Herb(s) for tea
  • Teapot (consecrated for this purpose only)
  • Cup(s) (consecrated)
  • Spouted Water Cup (consecrated)
  • Container for herb(s) (consecrated)
  • Pure Spring Water

Prepare by: cleansing the teapot, water cup and drinking cup(s), blending your herbs, (if necessary,) setting up a quiet, private place where you won't be disturbed, and boiling the spring water. Place the candle, herb container (with prepared herb(s) inside), Teapot and cup(s) in place in your ritual space. Bring the water to the ritual space in the spouted water cup, and begin:

Light the candle and, to the Goddess say:

Gracious Goddess,
You who are the Queen of the Gods,
The Lamp of Night,
The Creator of all that is wild and free;
Mother of woman and man;
Lover of the Horned God, and Protectress of all the Craft;
Descend, I Pray,
With Your Lunar ray of power,
Upon my rite here!

And to the God say:

Blazing God,
You who are the King of the Gods,
Lord of the Sun,
Master of all that is wild and free;
Father of woman and man;
Lover of the Cresent Goddess, and protector of all the Craft;
Descend, I pray,
With Your Solar ray of power,
Upon my rite here!

Then, with the tip of your Athame inserted into the cup of water, intone this blessing:

O Lady of the Mountain Streams,
O Lord of The Green Glade Creek,
I call on You to bless and purify this water
With Solar rays and Lunar beams.

So mote it be!

With the tip of your Athame touching the Herbs, intone this blessing:

Thou has grown by favour of the Sun, the Moon, and of the dew.
I make this intercession, ye herb:
I beseech thee to be of benefit to me and my rite,
For thy virtues are unfailing.
Thou art the Dew of all the Gods,
The Eye of the Sun,
The Light of the Moon,
The Beauty and Glory of the Sky,
The Mystery of Terra.
I purify thee so that whatever is wrought by me with thee may,
In all its powers,
Have a good and speedy effect with good sucess.
Be purified by my prayer and be powerful!
So mote it be!

Place herbs in teapot and add water. While the tea is steeping, say a prayer to the gods, thanking Them for the ending day's blessings, and asking Them to bless you throughout the coming day.

Pour and drink the tea. While doing this, meditate on the day's activities and how they reflect on your life, and on your plans for the coming day. When finished, thank the Goddess and God for Their presence during this rite by saying:

O Mistress of the Holy Moon,
O Master of the Sacred Sun,
I give thy thanks for Your presence here,
And blessings given.
I now bid Thee farewell.

Blessed Be!

Hail fair Moon,
Ruler of the Night;
Guard me and mine
Until the Light.
Hail fair Sun,
Ruler of the Day;
Rise on the morn
To Light my Way!

So mote it be!
